9 Common Principles

Educators in Ohio do not only help student achieve their goals in academic success but also hold themselves to the upmost standards set by Ohio law. Each Ohio educator uses the following common principles to ensure personal and professional success in and outside of the classroom.

Listed are the 9 common principles to be upheld by educators in Ohio as by The Licensure Code of Professional Conduct,

  1. Educators in Ohio are to behave in a professional manor
  2. Educators are to always maintain a professional relationship with students, in and out of classrooms
  3. Educators accurately report information required by the local board of education or governing board, state of education agency, federal agency, or state federal law
  4. Educators adhere to federal, state and local laws and statutes regarding criminal activity
  5. Educators comply with state and federal laws related to maintaining confidential information
  6. Educators serve as positive role models and do not use, possess or unlawfully distribute illegal or unauthorized drugs
  7. Educators ensure school property, public funds or fees paid by students or the community are used in the best interest of students and not for personal gain
  8. Educators fulfill all the terms and obligations in their employment contracts
  9. Educators use technology in a responsible manner and safeguard the electronic devices and data entrusted to them.

The Ohio Department of Education understands that an accusation of misconduct does not equivalate as conclusive proof. All educators have a right to due process with each circumstance considered on a case-by-case basis.

Teacher discipline in Ohio will vary depending on which of the principles have been violated and to what extent. In some cases, your teaching license can be suspended or revoked, which is why we’re here to help! Not all investigations will result in discipline.
